The word "Shenyang" in traditional Chinese letters

Shenyang facts - taken from wikipedia.org: Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning province in China. It is a sub-provincial city with a population of 7.2 million. Along with its nearby cities, Shenyang serves as the most important industrial center in China.

History
Shenyang lies on the north bank of Hui River (called as shenshui in the ancient times) and so it gets its name. According to the textual research on Xinle Site, in 7200 B.C, the ancestor of Shenyangers lived here. From 300 BC (12 years after the Zhao king of Yan kingdom got the power) when the Yan Kingdom dispatched General Qin kai to station troops here for border defence and the general founded Hou City till now, Shenyang has a history of mom than 2,300 years. Shenyang is frequently called as "the Birthplace of one dynasty and the capital of two generations of kings".

In 1625, the founder of he Qing Kingdom, Nurhaci, moved the capital here and changed he name into Shengjlng, In 1636, the son of Nurhaci changed the name of its kingdom into "Qing" and established the Qing Dynasty. In1644, when the Qing troops got across the Gate and made Beijmg as the capital, Shengjing was made as the sub-capital. In1657, Fenguan Fu (Government of office) was set. In 1945 when the anti-Japanese war was over, the city was changed into Shenyang.

Famous people born in Shenyang
Shenyang is the birthplace of the actress Gong Li. the famous singer Na Ying and the pianist Lang Lang, as well as conductor Seiji Ozawa.

The research funding focus for research on the "sustainable development of the mega cities of tomorrow" was published by the BMBF (German ministry of education and research) in spring 2004. This english longpaper should give you an idea of what the ministry intents to put emphasis on.

Our project
The main objective of the project can be described by the caption: "Restructuring of the old industry, preservation of Shenyang’s cultural heritage under simultaneous tourist utilisation, and improving urban ecology by the development of the supply and disposal structure". The sub-goals included will be attained by an interdisciplinary and feasible approach.

In addition the project contributes to the extension of Shenyangs infrastructure in areas such as waste management, sewage treatment, water supply and transport. All fields mentioned will be promoted according to the idea of social, economic and ecological sustainability.

Shenyang is an ideal city for a project like this. The city and the region has the potential to become a major Chinese tourist magnet. Thus tourism could serve as a stable source of funding the required measures in town planning and infrastructure consolidation. Shenyang, the capital city of Liaoning Province (42 mill pop) is the biggest city in northeast China and after Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin and Chongqing the 5th biggest city in China.

Shenyang will be promoted as a sustainable model mega city of tomorrow. Active participation will be ensured by effective capacity building.
